Sunday Social

I'm linking up with the Sunday Social on this Resurrection Sunday! I hope everyone had a wonderful and peaceful Easter Sunday.....

This Weeks Questions:

1. Favorite type of work out to do? I took my first Zumba class last week, and I loved it! Despite the fact that my hair was a complete mess by the time I left, I had a great time trying to keep up with the dance routines, and it was fun so I didn't technically feel like I was working out.

2. Favorite guilty pleasure candy or sweet? I'm not really a sweets/candy person but I do find myself fighting the urge to eat an entire bag of Twizzlers. I am addicted to them, but I had to stop eating them in large portions because they make my face break out.....

3. What is one thing you continuously forget to do? Hmmm, I'm slightly OCD so it is rare that I forget anything...but, I do sometimes forget to eat lunch when I get super busy at work. No bueno.

4. Posts its or phone reminders? Why? I LOVE POST-ITS. My office is covered in them, and I go through at least a pack a month. It is easier for me to remember to do things when I see yellow reminders all over my office. It holds me accountable. I hate my office being cluttered so it motivates me to complete tasks so I can throw the Post-It away faster......

5. Favorite picture currently on your phone that always makes you smile.

This photo definitely put a smile on my face...

Ok, so..

It's Okay..........

To get second opinions,
or even third if necessary.

It's okay to not want to stay in your career for another 30 years,
or better yet not even another 10 years.

It's okay:

To be tired of wearing suits everyday.
To miss the days when you could wear flip flops everyday and not HAVE to wear heels.
To hate the good old boys club.
To bite your tongue, in lieu of cursing people out...even though you want to. so bad.

It's ok to spend too much money at the Limited simply because they keep emailing you coupons every morning...
But, it's okay because suits and business casual clothes are a necessity...for work of course.

It's even more okay that this Sunday is Easter. My favorite holiday. I hope everyone has an awesome weekend....

Tuesday.

This would be the post in which I do nothing but rant and complain about how annoying my day has been, and how much I wish I could just run away and join the circus.

I'm also going to discuss the fact that some days being an attorney makes me want to swan dive off the top of my building in a blaze of bittersweet glory.

Other days I want to take my stiletto and stomp my phone and computer into oblivion. Or change my voicemail into one giant explicit message, with Tupac playing loudly in the background instructing callers that any messages they leave will not get returned until I feel like being bothered.

Then there are the days when I want to take my code books and.... Well I won't even go into detail on that one. *insert awkward silence*

Okay, I get it. Everyone has bad days at work. It's completely normal. But good grief. I just can't today.

I can't.

If one more attorney calls me with a bad attitude today.....

I just can't.

Up until now.....

I've had the most random of last few days.

I got the rest I had so been desiring and got to spend a lot of quality time with my mother, who is off work for the next couple of weeks recovering from surgery. I can almost promise that this post will be all over the place, because that is exactly how I feel this morning. All. Over. The. Place.

My week was the typical busy, court filled blur of wake up, grind, sleep, repeat. But I did manage to squeeze in time to relax a little after hours. The first day of Spring was cold. Very uncharacteristic for Houston. Underneath my coat, I snuck in flowers as my own personal form of rebellion against Mother Nature.....

I fell even more in love with Beyonce over the course of the week, when Bow Down leaked out to the world. I've seen the blogosphere and media tearing her apart for the song. Yes, it sounds a tad odd to hear her using the B word, but the song is so Houston... And being from here, I completely get it. I appreciate the fact that she acknowledges her roots musically. Just because you are known as the epitome of class, does not mean you can't have another side of you. It's the best of both worlds. But I digress...

Speaking of music, I picked up Justin Timberlake's new CD. It has literally been on repeat since Thursday. Literally. On. Repeat.

This weekend one of my friends from law school had her birthday party. I debated on if I should go or not, since she did invite my former guy best friend & his girlfriend (both of which I am no longer friends with) but I decided to be the bigger person and go anyways. I hate awkwardness and the last few times I've seen them out they were both rude as hell. I still haven't figured out why he decided not to be my friend anymore after all these years, although I assume it had to do with the girlfriend...but I am happy I went, had a good time and didn't feel bad at all just enjoying myself, celebrating my friend and pretty much pretending like they didn't exist... But again, I digress. I will have to dedicate a new post entirely to friendship on another day....

On Sunday, I went to the Haute Wheels Food Truck Festival. We got there a little late so the lines were already long. The only truck I really wanted to eat from was the Waffle Bus. After almost two hours of standing in line we finally got our food. Delicious. Well worth the wait.

I also got a bread pudding and yummy cake balls. My girlfriend had her heart set on a root beer float, so before we left we braved another line to satisfy her craving.

After the festival, I took a quick nap and then went out to see Oz at the movie theater. It was such a good movie. And after seeing it, I can definitely understand why The Wicked Witch of the West was so wicked.....

I don't really have much planned this week, but I do want to reflect and be thankful for all of the blessings The Lord has provided me with. It is Holy Week, and Easter Sunday is my favorite holiday. I haven't done my best lately to show gratitude, but I am thankful beyond measure and I will make every effort to be a better Christian and a better person.

And that about sums things up for now.....

Speaking of New Orleans....

I don't know her, but her story is too familiar. She has been missing in New Orleans for almost two weeks. Her face should be on every station in every city, but I'm afraid that's not the case. I'm praying for her, her family, her students and that whoever has kept her from her loved ones for so long gets the punishment they deserve.....

Laissez les Bon temps rouler....

This weekend trip to New Orleans, officially marked the end of my whirlwind of activities...or so I'm planning.

I hadn't been to New Orleans since 2010, and although that was only three years ago I think I'm slightly more mature than I was then. Aside from the food, art and shopping I'm not the major party person I was during my undergraduate years when I loved to take that drive after the club in Baton Rouge closed to New Orleans....

So many fun, dangerous nights, but I digress.

We went for my girlfriends 30th birthday and 5 year anniversary of her surviving an aneurysm just days after her 25th birthday. I definitely wanted to be a trooper since this was such a major milestone so I braved the crowds and drunk frat boys on Bourbon street and had a good time.

On Friday night, we ate, walked around, hit up the daiquiri shop and then ended up crashing by 2 am... Her other friends made it into the city later than us and ended up staying out the ENTIRE night. I was slightly glad we didn't end up doing that....

On Saturday, we walked around the French Quarter, ate at Bubba Gump's Seafood, browsed the artwork, talked with a fortune teller (who was eerily accurate) shopped some more... slept, and then went to eat again... The food in New Orleans. Amazing. Yes.

That night, we went out on Bourbon again and ended up dancing in a random club until everyone finally realized that we were old and couldn't hang like we used to. I was again happy by that....

Sunday morning, everyone met up for a final lunch together and beignets from the infamous Cafe Du Monde before we hit the road back home...

It was a great time and I'm happy I got the chance to spend the weekend with her. Meanwhile back in Houston, my other friend celebrated her thirtieth as well. I'm sad I missed out on her events so I ended up taking her out for lunch today since I took off work...

Overall a good weekend.
And it is back to the real world tomorrow....

Team Solange........

Last night, two of my friends and I went to see Solange Knowles live in concert at the Fitzgerald. It is no exaggeration, when I say that Solange gave us life...all collectively, amongst the crowd we lived.

Solange is an amazing performer.

The venue was full of urban hipsters, who all worship her style & most importantly her music. Her music is no where near being mainstream, and I'm sure the majority of the world knows every lyric of every song her sister Beyonce has ever sung... but after last night, I can proudly say that I am definitely team Solange.....

We waited in line for over an hour....and once the doors opened in this standing room only venue, we were lucky enough to all get seats in the upper balcony.

An artist named Sinkane was her opening act... I was not familiar with his music before the show started, but he was well worth being on the same ticket as her...

By the time Solange actually hit the stage it was already 10pm.... but she was so lively and full of energy that I did not even notice that it was well past my bed time...

She is so gorgeous.

We danced and sung ourselves silly. It was a great time... I went a little crazy with the photo editing, but as you can see we were all feeling ourselves! I had to pull the bangs back because it decided to be Spring forreal yesterday and the hot comb was not getting the job done (insert side eye) but I was happy that I got a chance to go out without wearing a jacket!!

Beyonce would have been proud...

But who am I really kidding?

I love them both. I don't think I could pick a side if I tried............

No Rest for the Weary....

Of course I do a post about being tired, and then wake up this morning realizing that I had lost an hour out of my day.... Daylight savings time. We meet again.

I tried my best to catch up on my rest. Friday night I was in bed by 8pm and it felt fabulous.

Saturday afternoon, I went to a scholarship banquet and ended up going out afterwards for dessert with a friend....
We stayed up talking entirely too late and I didn't go to sleep until 3am....

I had entirely too much on my mind last night so I didn't sleep well and ended up waking up with a major attitude. After a chat with my best friend on the phone & bottomless mimosas and brunch with another friend my mood improved.

Unfortunately I'm back with my mind in the clouds, thinking entirely too much.......

But at least I can go to bed early tonight. This week is going to be super busy. Going to see Beyonce's little sis Tuesday night, then New Orleans....

I promise after this upcoming weekend I'm going to sit all the way down...

Is "Tired" an Emotion?

Lately my response has been "Tired" whenever people ask me how I have been doing... My question to the universe.... is tired technically a valid response to that question?

I work, sleep and repeat a lot lately. I squeeze in some socializing, but in all honesty I need a nap. And a break. I want to work out everyday, and run three miles everyday and bake cookies and make culinary delights...and go shopping and paint my nails...and go to the spa... But when and how can I find the energy to do all these things? I need help!

I really think I'm going to take a hiatus from the real world and try to revamp my life. I feel a little overwhelmed and over-extended lately and I definitely need to take time out to focus on me and keeping myself happy and healthy.

I feel a list and some planning coming on, even though that is so against the point of taking a break...but hopefully I can figure something out so "tired" does not have to be the first word that pops in my head to describe how I'm doing....

"Good" sounds like a so much better response to that question......
